What is galeodes hakkariensis?

Galeodes hakkariensis is a species of solifugae, commonly known as sun spiders or wind scorpions. They are found in the Hakkari province of Turkey and the surrounding areas.

These spiders have a distinctive appearance, with a large cephalothorax and a long, segmented abdomen. They have large, powerful jaws and strong legs that allow them to move quickly across the desert sand. Despite the name "wind scorpion," they are not venomous and are not true scorpions.

Galeodes hakkariensis is primarily nocturnal and feeds on insects, spiders, and other arachnids. They are considered to be important predators in their ecosystem and play a role in controlling pest populations.

Like other solifugae, Galeodes hakkariensis has a unique way of breathing known as "spirotromy." They do not have traditional respiratory structures like lungs or tracheae; instead, they have spiracles located on their abdomen that lead to internal air sacs. This allows them to survive in oxygen-poor environments like their desert habitat.
